During the COVID crises and shut down, there was one scene that seemed to play out nightly. They ruled various media networks; families sitting, standing, laughing, and crying, attempting to communicate through a pane of glass. Mom, Dad, grandpa, or nana on one side and everyone else piled on the other. Each of us, in our own way, in our own nursing home, held captive by an invisible virus. Upward of two years of unrealized memories lost forever, lost to isolation and fear. Sealed wounds in time never to be realized or performed. Never to unfold. Even history won’t know what was lost, only gained.
Ripfolds is about the gains!

Every year the City of San Antonio sponsors a Chalk Art Festival. The city supplies all the chalk and leg room needed. Hundreds of people, mostly children sprawled on and along the street. A South Texas Moveable Feast. My daughter and I try to go every year. These masterpieces only exist for a flash, but they were real, they are GAINS, they happened.
